Outstanding Advising – Faculty Advisor Award

The Outstanding Advising – Faculty Advisor Award recognizes individuals whose primary responsibility is teaching and who spend a portion of their time providing academic advising services to students.

Eligibility:

  • Individual must have a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience. (NACADA Global Award requires a minimum of three years or 36 months at time of submission, which is in March of the following year.)
  • Individual whose primary responsibility is teaching and who spends a portion of their time providing academic advising services to students.
  • Individual must spend at least 50% of their time on teaching or research.
  • Current members of TennACADA Executive Committee are not eligible for consideration for this award. See a list of the Executive Board at http://tennacada.utk.edu/officers/.
Criteria:
The Selection Committee will evaluate nominations on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor or faculty advisor. Such evidence may include, but is not necessarily limited to, the following:
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Availability to advisees, faculty, or staff
  • Frequency of contact with advisees
  • Appropriate referral activity
  • Use and dissemination of appropriate information sources
  • Evidence of student success rate, by advisor or department
  • Caring, helpful attitude toward advisees, faculty, and staff
  • Participation in and support of intrusive advising to build strong relationships with advisees
  • Monitoring of student progress toward academic and career goals
  • Mastery of institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to engage in, promote, and support developmental advising
  • Participation in and support of advisor development programs
  • Perception by colleagues of nominee’s advising skills
